London Design Festival

From 17 to 21 september the London Design Festival was going on. I got the opportunity to join a friend, a designer, who was visiting for inspiration. The festival provides a snapshot of where we are now but, importantly, it offers an insight into where we are going. Innovative products being unveiled by both new talent and established names. It was a great day to look, shop (did not do), chat, learn or simply embrace great design.

First we went to TENT London and SUPERBRANDS were young designers showed their work. We also went to The Designjunction, to check out the already established brands and the basement with new lighting. The road to the basement was beautiful lighted with hundreds of small led pendants.

I noticed that most items were made from natural materials. Hardly any plastic or polyester.  Mainly wool, wood, glass, ceramic and metals like copper. The overall style is still scandinavian sleek lines with colours. I saw a few times fluorescent colours. Do not like. I expected more influence of the new 3D printing technology but only one stand made small jewellery by 3D printing.

I also spotted some amazing wall decorations. Besides wall paper I saw several amazing origami paper folding projects. Also prints are in (most with quotes or words). If you like to check out the latest designs and designers go to The website exclusively features current and previous exhibitors from the Tent and Superbrands. You can buy great original interior decoration, fashion accessories and furniture or just click around for some inspiration.

Here are some items I spotted at the Festival. The bird wallpaper is my favourite.
